As we step into the season of gratitude, we are excited to launch our “Grateful & Thankful” series, celebrating the Faces of Laradon—our participants, staff, volunteers, and supporters who bring life to our mission every day. Throughout November, we’ll be sharing stories that highlight the unique contributions and inspiring journeys of those who make Laradon a true community of inclusion and compassion. From overcoming challenges to achieving dreams, these stories are a reminder of the strength in unity and the power of gratitude. Join us each week as we honor the individuals who embody Laradon’s spirit of resilience, dedication, and heart.
In the heart Globeville, the vibrant community of Laradon thrives. As a nonprofit dedicated to supporting children and adults with developmental disabilities and other challenges, Laradon provides a wide range of programs to empower individuals and enrich lives. From the Adult Day Program to the Laradon School, every day is brimming with new possibilities and opportunities.
“I would say come and take a tour– see what is going on! See Laradon with your own eyes.” Blake Wilson says with a smile.
Blake Wilson is an invaluable part of the Laradon community, serving not only as a Laradon Foundation Board Member but also a dedicated volunteer who believes in Laradon’s mission. You may have seen him volunteering at a Foundation Event or enjoying one of Laradon’s Mock Dining experiences hosted by the Adult Day culinary class.
Those who know Blake, also know his wife, Amy Wilson. Amy is a board-certified music therapist. With over 25 years of experience, Amy has worked with individuals in the Laradon community throughout the years.
“My husband, Blake inspired me to get involved with Laradon. He is on the Laradon Foundation board. As a board-certified Music Therapist, I am aware of the meaningful work of this organization. I’ve even had a few clients in the past who participated in their day program,” Amy states.
Laradon is grateful for Blake and Amy—not only for the time they dedicate to Laradon, but also that they have chosen to use their personal resources to support our mission. Earlier this year, Laradon launched a platform called FreeWill to enable supporters to put together an estate plan quickly, easily, and at no charge. The Wilsons chose to create a planned gift through the FreeWill platform for its ease of use, but also because it allows people to put organizations, like Laradon, within their will.
“We want to leave funds for groups like Laradon, that can impact people’s lives,” explains Blake.
Amy adds, “I think that including Laradon in our estate planning is a meaningful way to give back to an important organization in the community. Laradon supports and empowers individuals with disabilities. As a Music Therapist, I serve people with disabilities too. It is a passion of mine – professionally and personally.”
Through supporters like Amy and Blake, Laradon can continue empowering people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
The Laradon community is deeply grateful for Amy and Blake’s time and dedication to its mission—and that gratitude is mutual.
“I’m grateful to Laradon for giving me something to be a part of…I am grateful to have become a part of the Laradon community,” Blake enthusiastically says.
