Globeville Neighborhood Celebrates the Grand Opening Of The Stella, the Second Affordable Housing Project in the Community

The $46 million development of 132 affordable apartments and the Laradon Career Center for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities aims to support marginalized groups

Community leaders, housing and health advocates, and development partners, celebrated the grand opening of The Stella, the newest, high-quality affordable housing community in Globeville, with a ribbon-cutting and unveiling.

Developed by Gorman & Company, The Stella is located on the 74 year old Laradon campus— a Denver nonprofit that empowers children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) through education, programs, and services.

The Stella is mixed-use with 5,486 square feet on the first floor dedicated to Laradon’s Career Center. The Career Center provides life-changing employment services to more than 100 individuals with disabilities. The dedicated employment space consists of training areas, conference rooms, computer stations, and multi-purpose meeting areas.

This is the second affordable housing complex to open on Laradon’s campus in partnership with Gorman & Company. In 2019 The Elisabetta opened with 91 affordable apartments, totaling in 223 affordable apartments between the two complexes.

Of the 132 apartments at The Stella, 16 are ADA accessible and Laradon will assist individuals with IDD, families and staff, who qualify under Denver Housing Authority, to find housing.

Funding and developmental partners include the Colorado Housing and Finance Authority (CHFA); City and County of Denver Economic Development Office (DEDO); Daniels Fund; Jay & Rose Family Foundation of Colorado; Phillips Family Foundation of Colorado; Denver Housing Authority; State of Colorado Department of Local Affairs Division of Housing; National Equity Fund;  Chase; Lument; Louis & Harold Price Foundation; and Laradon. The architect was Shopworks Architecture, and Deneuve Construction and Novum Contracting Group were the construction contractors. Gorman & Company manages the property.
