It’s April 1st, so I have to ask—did anyone swap your coffee for decaf? Did someone accidentally eat your lunch? Classic.
But here’s something that isn’t a joke: You have the power to change someone’s life.
Today marks the beginning of Volunteer Appreciation Month, and I wanted to personally thank the incredible humans who have shown up—heart first—for our Laradon community.
Last year, 95 volunteers gave their time, talents, and love to support over 450 individuals across our programs. They helped adults in our Adult Day program learn new skills, encouraged students in our Laradon School, and stood alongside teens at our Calabrese Youth Center as they found their voice and their place.
These volunteers didn’t show up to be heroes.
They showed up to be present. To listen, laugh, create, and connect.
They remind us every day that belonging isn’t just a program—it’s a feeling.
And if you’ve been wondering whether there’s a place for you at Laradon… the answer is yes.
Yes to one-time projects.
Yes to weekly commitments.
Yes to trying something new.
Yes to making a difference at Laradon.
Spring is here. Let’s grow something good—together.
With sunshine and so much gratitude,
Karla Zelvis
Volunteer and Special Events Manager, The Laradon Foundation
